A life-long reader, Valerie wanted to share her personal story with her fans through her books - Losing It and now Finding It - but she shares her love of books with a close-knit group of women who have been meeting regularly for 12-and-a-half years: Her book club.

"We met each other through our children, who were all in school together," Valerie recalls. "Suzanne Ferleger and I were in the same carpool, and I was dropping off her son. She came out to the car holding the same book I was reading - Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. We were both fascinated at how a man could write in a woman's voice and Suzanne said, 'Wouldn't it be great if...'"

After the success of my first book, Losing It, I was anxious about how Finding It would be received - especially because it's a much more introspective and personal book. I was thrilled to read a very positive review from Publishers Weekly on the day Finding It came out...

One of the biggest questions anyone faces when they lose weight or make a major life change is, “Now what?” 

With my new book, Finding It, I’m doing my very best to answer that question for myself. My son Wolfie is growing up and falling in love, and let’s face it, getting your sex talk from Eddie Van Halen wasn’t recommended in any of the parenting books I read. 

As my relationship with my boyfriend Tom has deepens, we face new challenges in blending our families. Being with him and learning about his faith, I’ve realized that I crave a deeper sense of spirituality. I have experienced days of inner peace and connectedness with a larger spirit – twice. Why not more often? What I’ve learned is God wants you to enjoy desserts – even when you’re on a diet. 

Yes, dieting fixes one problem, but to maintain that weight loss, you have to work on everything else. Finding It is my version of “everything else!” My publisher Free Press has put together a busy schedule of signings and appearances for me.  Please come out and see me!
