After the success of my first book, Losing It, I was anxious about how Finding It would be received - especially because it's a much more introspective and personal book. I was thrilled to read a very positive review from Publishers Weekly on the day Finding It came out...

"In her latest memoir, TV personality and Jenny Craig spokesperson Valerie Bertinelli explores questions of change and identity after having lost 40 pounds, a personal project she described quite publicly in 2008's Losing It. Newly svelte, Bertinelli's next challenge is facing the fact that weight loss is not exactly a cure-all... What she reveals about life at 48, aside from weight-loss issues, is enjoyable and oftentimes hilarious: struggling with the adulthood and sexuality of her son Wolfie, searching for God, and waxing regretful over her lack of formal education. ... Her talent for humor, candor and fostering intimacy with readers is apparent on every page. Looking at middle-aged life with a boyfriend and a mixed family, Bertinelli is ceaselessly honest and pretense-free, and should get readers cheering for her accomplishments." ~ Publishers Weekly, October 5, 2009

Hi Valerie,

I just ordered your work-out video and both your books from Amazon. I'm so excited to read them and do the work out video! You are such an inspiration to me. I appreciate that you are so genuine, and I really admire you.
Can't wait to start reading!

Melanie
p.s. I LOVE Hot in Cleveland. Melanie is so much like me in so many ways! It has to be one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time with one of the best casts on television.

Because you’re right: maintenance isn’t just about weight, it’s about living for the unmistakable happiness that lights up your eyes in every episode of Hot and Cleveland. So if you ever find yourself to be bogged down in the day-to-day struggle, remember this: a joyful heart is always worth fighting for.

All the best,

Jean

Dear Valerie,

Sitting in my Santiago apartment-halfway across the world and miles from everything I had come to love in Los Angeles-I was stuck: neither here, nor there and afraid of moving forward. Far from my UCLA family and the sense of purpose I had cultivated within it's warm embrace, I had lost my sense of direction and was searching for a source of inspiration to guide me back towards peace and understanding. I was looking for direction...and found it, in your words. Listening to you recount your own journey, I discovered something about my own: I had, somewhere along the way, lost my sense of faith—in my self, in others, in the world. I had given up the one thing that I had always hung on to, especially in the midst of uncertainty. I realized, what’s more, that no matter where I was, or what language I was imperfectly speaking, I could still be the girl that believes in possibility.

I have been a long time fan of yours. When you came out with losing it I couldn't wait to read it. I felt like you were actually talking to me. It is so nice to see that you are a very approchable person. I think you truly rock with all that has happened to you, you still have landed on your feet
