Boston Marathon - She Did It! PDF Print E-mail
fitness
On Monday, April 19, 2010 before thousands of cheering race fans – and four days before her 50th birthday – Valerie Bertinelli completed the 114th Boston Marathon. It was her first-ever attempt at the daunting 26.2-mile distance, and Valerie and her personal trainer Christopher Ross Lane finished the race in a respectable 5 hours, 14 minutes.

“I am so overwhelmed, and so excited,” she said. “I can’t believe it. I’m just blissful. It was so hard, but so much fun.”

“I am just so proud of her,” Christopher said. “She was steady and strong throughout the race.”

Losing It and Keeping Fit! My DVD PDF Print E-mail

This is it! Here's my secret to weight-loss success with two full-length workouts led by my personal trainer Christopher Ross Lane. "Losing It: Body Basics" is a 20-minute, beginner-level routine that works the entire body while focusing on trimming the hips, thighs, abs, and arms. "Keeping Fit: Bikini Ready" is a more challenging, 40-minute routine that sculpts muscles and burns fat by alternating toning exercises and cardio bursts. The program also includes the bonus workout "Bikini Abs Sculpting" to specifically target the troublesome midsection. This program, which you can do in the comfort of your home without a lot of fancy equipment, is what I used to get ready for my People Magazine bikini photo!

Why I'm Running the Boston Marathon: Aunt Norma PDF Print E-mail
fitness

I am honored to run the Boston Marathon on behalf of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute because my family, like so many others, has been touched by cancer.

In 2005, my Aunt Norma succumbed to colon cancer. She was my Dad's youngest sister, a mother to four daughters and one son, and a light in our lives. She was the funny one. I believe I inherited her sense of humor, as Aunt Norma was always the life of the party. I remember a trip to Las Vegas a few years ago when Aunt Norma and Aunt Adeline stayed up all night playing slot machines. They even outlasted me!

If my legs begin to ache during the race, I will draw on Aunt Norma - her warm laugh and her sunny spirit - for inspiration.

Stay in Shape while Traveling PDF Print E-mail

Valerie and Tom are taking a much-needed vacation this week. In spite of a regular travel schedule that routinely disrupts her workout routine, she manages to stay in shape. We talked with Valerie's personal trainer, Christopher Ross Lane, to get some tips for everyone on staying in shape when you're traveling for business... or pleasure.

"I think if you're on the road a lot, the first thing to do is find out if the hotel you're staying at has a gym - or find one that does," Christopher said. "That way it's easy to get a workout in - the gym is right there. All you have to do is go downstairs or walk down the hall."

If you can't find a hotel with a workout facility, it doesn't mean you can't exercise in your room or out on the town. Check for nearby gyms or fitness centers which will sometimes offer day passes for a small fee.
