Lunch at Patio in Provincetown - YUM!We recently went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for the wedding of a dear friend from the Rachael Ray Show. Tom and I decided to take a few extra days to relax before the start of my busy book tour. Cape Cod is just spectacular – who knew it was so beautiful? It reminds me of where I grew up, along the East Coast in Delaware.

Cape Cod is lush with greenery and there are no fences between the houses. It has a very communal feel and the people are just so friendly. Yes, the seafood is great but so is being surrounded by all this history!

We stayed at the historic Ocean Edge Resort and Spa in Brewster, a Victorian mansion built in 1912. Finding out the history of the house was fascinating. The resort actually rests on the foundation of a prominent Cape Cod family home that was built in the 1890s and burned to the ground in 1906, destroying all the family’s belongings. The owner, Roland Nickerson, is said to have died of a broken heart – but his widow Addie carried on and rebuilt the beautiful home – which is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

We spent a lot of time driving around, soaking up the scenery – and we even got lost but I didn’t mind because it’s just so beautiful. When you’re on the Cape, make sure you visit Skaket Beach during low tide – the tide goes out about a mile and a half, and you can walk out on the tidal flats that are teeming with sea life. We took a picture and on the GPS, it shows us standing in the middle of the ocean!

The Lobster Hut in Plymouth was recommended to us and we had the most amazing lobster roll there – it’s a lot like a diner or a burger joint, but there weren’t any burgers on the menu. Plymouth is an absolutely beautiful little town with ships in the wharf and so much history all around. We wanted to see Plymouth Rock, which was ... interesting. Apparently it was over 120 years after they landed that the Pilgrims decided the rock was something special and they carved 1620 into it. Today the rock is displayed in a stone-columned atrium.

Dexter's Inn - I miss my boy!

Of course, whenever I'm traveling, something will always remind me of home, and in our wanderings, we found Dexter's Inn - just like my boy Dexter and his sister Didi. It did make us a little homesick and I had to take a picture!

We loved Cape Cod – it’s a beautiful, friendly area that gave us some much needed time to relax and sightsee and soak up some history. I will definitely return. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
